Apple announced that on October 27th they will be holding a special event, due to the fact that we've already seen the iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad pro announcements this year we are expecting to see a refresh to the Mac lineup. It has been two years since the Macbook lineup has received any sort of upgrade. Throughout this year the 2016 Macbook Pro has been the most anticipated computer yet. Due to a series of leaks and several mockups we already know approximately what Apple is going to release.
Technical Specifications:
We are expecting the new Macbook Pro to feature either the 6th or 7th generation Intel Core processors which offer a large power to performance upgrade in comparison to the 4th generation which is found in the current Macbook Pro. We are also expecting a new generation of either AMD polaris or nvidia Geforce 10 series graphics chips that offer drastic performance upgrades in comparison to the previous AMD firepro chip built into the Macbook. We can expect about the same SSD performance but will likely see support for Thunderbolt 3.0 which allows much higher transfer speeds compared to the previous generation. It is still up in the air weather USB type C support will be enabled. According to the leaks however there will be either USB type C or Thunderbolt type C, potentially even a combination jack similar to what has been featured on the New Razer Blade and Razer Blade Stealth.
Design:
The new Macbook pro is rumored to be available in a space gray color and potentially others such as rose and just plain gold similar to the regular 2016 Macbook. Additionally leaks of a chassis of the new macbook pro show evidence of a new "bar" above the keyboard that could potentially house an OLED screen as shown in the images alongside this article. In the leaks this bar replaces the old "Quick control bar" that allowed you to change screen and keyboard brightness, volume and many other functions. As we can see in the image we could potentially get third party support for apps and have apps display information and controls within this new control bar. This feature in particular is liked amongst reviewers and writers. No other details have been released at this time but this is what we can expect for now.
If you're interested in viewing the event live it will be live streamed on the Apple website on October 27th 2016 and can be viewed here.
